Someone asked me the other day, "Why is the church the most prominent building in each town?"

Because traditionally the church has been commanded by God to be a place of refuge for all. If you were fleeing for your life, you'd want to quickly find the place that will help you.

A sanctuary, in its original meaning, is a sacred place, such as a shrine. By the use of such places as a haven, by extension the term has come to be used for any place of safety.

Are you involved with a local church that is a place of sanctuary in your community? Is your church a place of refuge for you?

If not, I urge you to find a church that is and get involved.
